Faculty of Engineering was established in 1993. It started with just one Department, namely, the Civil Engineering. The Faculty received the students in the academic year 1993-1994. The Faculty aims to graduate engineers able to serve the society in a time that Iraq undergoes great construction. The staff of the Faculty interacts with the construction campaign in Najaf and they are seen to be highly qualified with unique perseverance and sincerity.
1- Department of Civil Engineering
The Department of Civil Engineering Opened in 1993. The first group of students were accepted in the academic year 1993-1994. The Department gives a certificate of Bachelor in Science of Civil Engineering for the initial studies. The department aims to prepare engineering staff qualified to do what is entrusted with the task of civil engineering.
2- Department of Mechanical Engineering
The Department of Mechanical Engineering was opened in 1994. It received students at the academic year 1995-1996. The department aims to prepare engineering staff dedicated to meet the society needs to contribute effectively in the implementation of the draft plans of development and reconstruction in the country. The department gives a degree in Science Mechanical Engineering of the initial studies.
3 – Department of Electrical Engineering
The Department of Electrical Engineering was opened in 2002-2003. It accepted the first group of students in the same year. The department aims to prepare a qualified and competent engineering staff in the study of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The Department student is given the graduate degree of electrical engineering. It feeds the scientific life in various areas of life, whether in government sector, or private sector.
4 – Department of Materials Engineering
The Department of Materials Engineering was opened in 2007-2008. It accepted the first group of students in the same year. It is one of the modern Departments in Faculty which is concerned essentially with the manufacture specifications and shapes of Materials to suit the required applications. These materials include metals, ceramics, polymers, and composite materials. They can be used in several areas such as telecommunications, electronics, energy, environment, medicine and health, and nanotechnology.
5 – Department of Structural Engineering and Water Resources
The Department of Structural Engineering and Water Resources was opened in the academic year 2008-2009. It accepted the first group of students in the same year. It is one of the modern departments in the Faculty which is concerned basically with the hydraulic of water, facilities, and hydraulic filtration systems. The department aims to prepare engineering staff to meet the society needs in the implementation of development projects. The department gives a degree in engineering science facilities and water resources.
6 – Department of Electronic and Communications Engineering
Department of Electronic and Communications Engineering was opened in 2011-2012. It accepted the first group of students in the same year. The department aims to prepare staff specialized in Electronic and Communications Engineering of designing, analysis, and creating modern systems. The graduates will be able to work within an integrated team. The Department prepares them to continue their studies developed at the global level in the electronics, communications and keep pace with scientific development through the modernization plans and programs.
