The President of the UOK, Prof. Dr. Akeel Abed Yasseen, met with the Bishop of the Armenian Community, Dr. Afak Asdorean, to discuss the establishment of various events and activities within the UNESCO Chair Program, obtained by the university recently.
The meeting included the discussion of preparations for the upcoming seminar, which is to be held in cooperation with the Iraqi Council for Inter-religious Dialogue, and that coincides with the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide.
Dr. Yasseen pointed out that the UOK has opened its doors to all the religious and academic institutions willing to cooperate with the university in activating the UNESCO Chair activities.
This includes holding conferences and scientific activities that seek rapprochement between religions and resist violence and militancy.
For his part, the Bishop of the Armenian Community praised the efforts of the UOK and the religious schools in Najaf province for their part in the rapprochement between religions and sects, as well as for spreading the spirit of tolerance and love among people.
