The President of the UOK, Prof. Dr. Akeel Abed Yaseen, met with a delegation from Crisis Management Initiative (CMI) Organization. The delegation was represented by Mr. Elka Sitalu, former ambassador of the European Union in Baghdad, and Mrs. Sama Kistikalo, director of the Middle East Program at the organization. Dr. Yaseen took the initiative to present to the delegation all the scientific programs and activities launched by the university with the aim of reconciling and conversing between different religions and faiths, particularly the “Conference pf Religious Pluralism in the Dialogue of Civilizations” which was held at the UOK and attended by religious, cultural and academic figures and preachers from all different religions. For their part, members of the delegation praised the scientific steps pursued by the UOK in reforming the society and battling against sectarianism.
It is worth noting that Crisis Management Initiative (CMI) is an independent, non-governmental organization that works to resolve conflict and to build sustainable peace. CMI has offices in Helsinki and Brussels and activities in Liberia, Ethiopia, the Black Sea region, Middle East and Aceh. It was founded by Martti Ahtisaari, the former President of Finland, in 2000. In 2005, it achieved reputation for the peace agreement between The Government of Indonesia and the Free Aceh Movement. Martti Ahtisaari won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2008.
