The Department of Research and Development at the University of Kufa is one of the long-acquainted scientific departments whose establishment and work coincides with the opening of the university in 1987. The department’s vivacity has undergone both increase and decrease convoying the state of the university. The role of the department has grown due to the increase in the number of its divisions and units, and also because of the expansions in the university in order to keep up with the innovations occurring in the faculties, scientific departments, centers and research units which are certified by the university especially during the last four years.
One of the divisions that used to be part of the Department of Research and Development was the Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Promotions Division which has become an independent department ever since 2007. Also, the Quality Division which has developed with the importance of the application of the quality standards to become an independent department in 2009 named “Department of Quality, assurance and Academic Reliability”.
The Department is directly attached to the Vice-president of the University for Scientific Affairs Office.

The Aims of the Department:
The Department of Research and Development is concerned with objectives that are derived from its very name. It is a department of research and development in scheme, organization, administration, and leadership. It punctuates and coordinates, and always supervising and recording the results, all in favour of the administrative quality. That, however, achieves the University’s main goals and contributes in its development. The aims and goals of the Department can be put within these points:
First: Perceiving Development and applying it through:
1- Collecting information about the various activities of the University and all its units.
2- Sorting and analyzing the data scientifically and statistically.
3- Insuring the application of the blueprints and recording its percentage.
4- Pointing up the achieved blueprints and revealing it.
5- Protecting the innovations and patents, and proceeding in sponsoring the scientists and talented.
Second: Working on applying Development and fulfilling its requirements through:
1- Developing the scientific and researching potentials in the University.
2- Developing the human resources.
3- Securing all the researching requirements such as labs, books and e-books, stationary, magazines and all kinds of resources, safety tools and security for the labs and researches work.
Third: Planning the Development and programming it through:
1- Setting up the scientific blueprint for the University and monitoring it.
2- Planning and monitoring the conferences, seminars, and workshops.
3- Planning and monitoring the national and international hosting.
4- Innovating scientific and researching Centers and Units and consultative centers.
Fourth: Providing Scientific Counseling for Development for both the University and Society through:
1- Developing and monitoring the scientific and academic relations with other Universities.
2- Developing and monitoring the scientific, academic, and community service that are offered by the University for the various Departments and civil society organizations.
3- Keeping up with the world’s most recent experiments, scientific improvement, academic research and present it to the University.
4- Activating the role of censorship and control upon the chemical, biological, and radio-active substances, in order to insure the safety of the researchers and preserving the environment.
