Within the framework of the executive program between both of the Ministry of Culture and the UNESCO, the Faculty of Monuments and Heritage, University of Kufa received an international scientific deputation including the Italian international expert in restoring and maintaining the ancient scrolls, Mr. Marco.
The Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Tahir Yusuf Al-Waely, delivered a speech concerning the foundation of the faculty and its intended future ambitions, emphasizing the political view shown here that Iraq is not a battlefield as many countries around the world believe, and that it has no place for Education and learning. Mr. Marco illustrated that he will reflect his views about the peacefulness and scientific renaissance Iraq is maintaining now to his colleagues. On the scientific scale, this visit is to open a wide range of scientific relations through the potential mutual cooperation in maintaining the Iraqi monuments and scrolls as well as training both of the instructors and students. Mr. Dean also pointed out that the faculty is considering opening a Department of Restoration and Maintenance as well as a Center for Researches and maintaining the sources of heritage as soon as a staff exists.
Mr. Marco also delivered a speech in the presence of the Arab and Islamic Heritage Department students referring to the main steps and mechanisms of restoring the scrolls. He also pointed out the high level of awareness the people of Najaf possess in preserving their heritage, and the role of people in preserving their heritage in general, followed by some questions from the attendance.
