Abstract

The current research aims at designing a mathematical unit by the requirements of the International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and the impact of this proposed design on the thinking of the second intermediate students in Najaf. The unit was designed according to the first two steps of the original educational design and the second the skills included in the global project. The mathematical content was (relative numbers, real numbers, algebraic). The sample consisted of (60) students from the secondary schools in Najaf, The first group was experimental by (30) students, and the second group was an control with (30) students also. The selection was done in a simple random way. The research tools were pre-test and post-test, both of which were built to measure the (forked thinking according to strategies The strategy of correlation analysis, the strategy of analysis of views, the strategy of complementarily and the strategy of network analysis of relations). has been used Cooder Richardson equation 20, (t) test for two independent samples and (t) test for statistical samples interconnecting means, and the results showed, There were statistically significant differences between the pre and post test of the experimental group, as well as the existence of statistically significant differences between the post-test of the two research groups, both in favor of the design of the proposed unit. In the end of the results, a set of recommendations were written.
