The President of the UOK, Prof Dr. Akeel Abed Yasseen, called for the need to increase palm cultivation through tissue agriculture and preventing the bulldozing of palm groves.
It occurred during a visit he made to the Palm Propagation Unit at the Faculty of Agriculture.
He was accompanied by the dean of the faculty, Dr. Fathil Al-Sahaf, during his inspection tour around the unit’s laboratories.
He was presented with a detailed explanation by the head of the unit, Dr. Muslim Abed Ali Al-Rubaie, about the stages of palm reproduction through tissue cultivation, staring from the rosebud apical stage down to the production of seedlings and transferring them to the fields.
Mainly the process goes through five steps: emergence of bud, growth of bud, proliferation of bud, elongation stage and finally the rooting and localization stage.
