For the purpose of developing a common strategy to address the causes of desertification in Iraq and finding ways to reduce this phenomenon, the Faculty of Agriculture at the UOK held a symposium entitled “Salt Deterioration and Desertification: Causes, Results and Treatment Strategy”. Researchers from the universities of Baghdad, Basra, Babylon, Qadisiyah, Karbala and Muthana participated in the symposium, in addition to professors from the Department of Soil Science and Water Resources at the UOK.
The researchers presented scientific researches that dealt with the problems of desertification in Iraq, its causes and the results of some of the treatments used in the present time. While also paying attention to some modern scientific techniques and their role in addressing desertification.
The symposium ended with a set of recommendations which were addressed to all departments and directorates of agriculture in Najaf and the Middle Euphrates provinces, in order to benefit from them and eliminate all desertification.
