In the presence of the President of the UOK, Prof. Dr. Akeel Abed Yasseen, and a number of professors, lecturers and postgraduate students, the process of selecting three postgraduate nominees (PhD) to participate in the contest (Three Minute Thesis) recently took place at the UOK. The three candidates were selected out of a total of nine participants, where they are required to summarize their thesis in three minutes and in English.
Dr. Haidar Al-Hamdani, Director of the Department of Scholarships and Cultural Relations at the UOK, and the Chairman of the Preparatory Committee for Effectiveness stated that the universities of Kufa and Qatar are the only two Arab universities authorized to conduct this competition. Stressing that the choice of the UOK came after several coordination with the University of Queensland in Australia, which started this experience in 2008.
The nominees are to send their participation on CD to the Australian university. In the case of winning, winners are nominated to travel and compete with other universities world wide.
It is worth noting that the Three Minute Thesis Competition is being organized for the first time in the Middle East. The Judging Committee comprised of the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Dr. Mirza Hamza, and the Dean of the Faculty of Languages, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Kilaby, and the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Prof. Dr. Rajiha Abed Al-Hassan, as well as Faculty of Medicine Professor Dr. Mohsen Al-Dalimy and the Vice-president for Scientific Affairs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohsen Al-Abadi.
