The test of English as a foreign language, TOEFL, center successfully opened its doors in 2008 after the inauguration of similar centers at the University of Baghdad and the University of Basra. Its foundation was all thanks to the great efforts of the University of Kufa, in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, ETS Amman (English Testing Services) and the Reconstruction Team of Najaf.
The teaching committee in the center consists of a number of English language teachers at the University of Kufa who were trained by ETS to supervise ITP tests and to participate in multiple courses.
Participants in a course held by the center have different scientific backgrounds and degrees and they enroll in for various purposes. English Club is one of the most distinguished activities held monthly by the center. Its primary concern is discussing different subjects in English with native speakers. The center also holds a Video Conference (weekly scheduled sessions via satellite) with international universities such as Rider University in New Jersey. Such conferences are intended to create mutual understanding between the cultural environments of those universities and the Eastern Islamic culture.
