The Faculty of Archeology and Heritage, at the UOK, warmly welcomed Geraldine Sterald, the expert in archeology at UNESCO, to lecture at the faculty. Sterald successfully presented her lecture which was entitled (Protection and Preservation of Monuments and Heritage Buildings). During the lecture, she stressed on the fact that Iraq is rich with heritage sites which contain hundreds of heritage treasures for the Babylonian, Akkadian, Sumerian, and Islamic civilizations.
She also stated that Kufa City is regarded the capital of Imam Ali Caliphate, which makes it rich with archeological and heritage buildings, but due to indiscriminate digging many were subjected to damage and distortion.
Furthermore, Sterald pointed out the organization’s pursuit to add some of the archeological and heritage sites in the province to the list of international heritage.
