The UOK celebrated the twenty-eighth anniversary of its foundation, which also coincided with the anniversary of Imam Ali’s arrival to the city of Kufa and crowning it the capital of Islamic Caliphate, year 36 (AH).
The rector, Prof. Dr. Aqeel Abed Yaseen, confirmed that the celebration was honored by the presence of members from the Higher Education Committee and parliament members.
In his speech, Dr. Yaseen spoke about the stages of establishment and presented statistics on the number of students, professors and teaching staff, in addition to pointing out the UOK’s great scientific and architectural achievements, among which was the acquisition of the UNESCO Chair and some medical achievements.
The ceremony included the honoring of teaching staff who received the title of Professorship throughout 2014, as well as honoring the exemplary scientific departments in the faculties of the university.
The UOK also honored a number of athletes who won championships in sports competitions, in addition to pioneers and previous rectors of the UOK.
It is worth mentioning that the UOK was founded on 27/12/1987 and currently includes 21 faculties and 5 scientific and research centers.
More than 26000 students are enrolled in the undergraduate studies and more than 2000 in postgraduate studies, in addition to more than 1800 professors with all kinds of scientific titles.
